Even cat lovers and non-cat lovers alike will want to take photos here – the super colorful cat murals at Tainan’s Cat Highlands!

Hidden gem of cat murals right here! Tainan’s “Cat Highlands” in the Yintong Community has drawn travelers from all over with its vibrant murals. Among them, the most eye-catching is a massive painting standing 7 meters tall and 23 meters wide. In addition to its adorable feline subjects, the wall also features the community’s flower of choice – the daylily – as well as the iconic paired trees in front of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Coupled with the iron window frames and decorative ceramic tiles, it has become the brightest highlight of the alleyway – no matter how you snap it, the photos come out great!

Located within Lane 3, Kaishan Road, West Central District, Tainan, Cat Highlands is the masterpiece born from the efforts and creativity of the neighborhood chief and residents of Yintong Community. The lane’s landscaping and murals were jointly created by local residents and volunteers, utilizing recycled materials for decoration. The locals also planted fresh flowers here, transforming this once-abandoned vacant lot. Through word of mouth among locals, it has become a popular photo spot for tourists visiting Tainan and a beloved landmark in Yintong Li.

In late 2015, Yintong Li decided to revamp an abandoned lot in Lane 3, Kaishan Road. They painted the four-story building’s walls in a rainbow of colors. Due to its slightly higher elevation compared to the surrounding area and the frequent presence of cats in the past, it was named “Cat Highlands.” The environment was decorated with numerous cat-themed designs—not just on the walls but also on the ground, where you can find planters marked with paw prints, creating a lovely and vibrant visual atmosphere.
