After admiring the daylilies, witness the million-star night view — a two-day, one-night tour of Nantou’s mountain and water scenery

Nantou is the only county in Taiwan that does not border the sea, yet it boasts the spectacular landscapes of the central mountain range. In addition to the magnificent Sun Moon Lake, you can also visit the Toushe Basin to admire beautiful daylilies, go canoeing, and explore the world’s rare peat soil basins. Later, travel along Provincial Highways 21 and 14 to visit other uniquely charming attractions, and end your trip at the Gangliao Zhi 179 Scenic Farm, where you’ll find a campsite reminiscent of a Hobbiton scene and enjoy a million-star night view shimmering like colored glass.

1. Admiring daylilies in Toushe Basin

August and September are the peak blooming seasons for daylilies. In addition to the more famous locations such as Liushishi Mountain and Chike Mountain in Hualien, you can also head to Nantou’s Toushe Active Basin to admire the “dancing sea of daylilies.” This year, the area has expanded even more than in previous years, and features Taiwan’s only floating daylilies, making it a rare sight of daylilies thriving in an active basin.

2. Sun Moon Old Tea Factory
The Sun Moon Old Tea Factory has witnessed the rise and fall of the tea industry, and today this half-century-old tea factory remains, having been transformed into a scenic and educational destination. The old factory preserves the wisdom of traditional farming, and the improved Assam variety “Taiwan Tea No. 8” is now widely renowned.
