Go Red to Japan!: Taipei’s Over-the-Top Milkshake Shop

Located in Taipei’s Ximending district, Meat Up’s beautiful gradient juices and flashy milkshakes are super eye-catching, and its flamingo wall mural has attracted many diners for meals and photo uploads to social media. Its extreme popularity has even been covered in Japanese media, and it was voted one of the must-try foods by Japanese netizens.

Meat Up has a compact space, with pink-painted walls that skip white, adorned with a few bundles of dried flowers and small lights. The mosaic blue bricks combined with a wooden counter give off a slightly British-Taiwanese retro vibe. Both the wall inside near the entrance and the shop’s left exterior wall feature hand-painted colorful artwork by the owner.

Recently, they’ve also launched a super dreamy cake called “Sleeping Beauty,” available daily at 2 PM with only ten pieces per day. It’s completely covered with edible flowers, mainly decorated with red bean paste along with cream and cake, resembling a piece of art that takes your breath away with its beauty.

True to its over-the-top style, Meat Up this summer introduced a drink called “Mango What,” featuring an entire slice of mango hanging outside the cup that stunned many. It’s currently available until the end of August, though the exact end date will depend on the mango season. Fans of mango’s sweet-tangy flavor should definitely seize the chance.

Besides dreamy drinks and cakes, Meat Up also offers a variety of savory options like burgers and pasta — perfect for hanging out and taking photos with your girlfriends.
