Typhoons Sanvu and Mawar form in northern and eastern Taiwan; heavy rain and downpours expected

This weekend, under the influence of the outer circulation of Typhoon Mawar (No. 16), southern and eastern parts of Taiwan may experience showers or thunderstorms. The central and northern regions, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, may have localized brief showers or thunderstorms, with a chance of localized heavy or torrential rain. Strong winds of Force 8 to 9 are likely in western and southeastern coastal areas (including Green Island and Orchid Island) as well as in Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Southeastern areas (including Green Island and Orchid Island), Hengchun Peninsula, western Taiwan, and coastal Penghu may also see swells. Strong sea winds should also be watched.

The Central Weather Bureau has also issued severe weather advisories for seven counties and cities. Yilan and Hualien must guard against torrential rain, while northern Taiwan (including Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung), Taitung, and Pingtung should be wary of heavy rain. Severe rain and torrential rain warnings are in effect for these seven areas. Rain is likely across Taiwan this weekend, so travelers should pay special attention to bringing rain gear and ensuring travel safety.
