Romance level off the charts: April blooms bring cherry blossom rivers—bike along the riverbanks in Taipei

April brings warm spring weather and the season for azaleas. The Taipei Water Department reports that in the Yanping and Shuangxi Left Bank Riverside Parks, azalea bloom rates have exceeded 70%. The azaleas planted along the embankments resemble vibrant rivers of flowers, with petals drifting onto the grass, adding a splash of color and a wonderfully romantic atmosphere to the riverside parks.

▲ Azaleas are hardy plants, drought-resistant and able to withstand humidity, making them extremely adaptable—they can thrive in both full sun and shaded areas.

The Taipei Water Department notes that azaleas, with their fuzzy leaves, can grow even in the polluted urban air. Beyond regulating moisture, their leaves also trap dust, helping to purify the air. The department reminds everyone that April is the best time to admire azaleas and encourages people to take advantage of the holiday by cycling, enjoying the gentle breeze, and having a relaxing weekend.

1. MRT (Bring your own bike or use UBIKE): Get off at “MRT Shuanglian Station,” walk to the end of Minsheng West Road, enter the bike path from Dadaocheng Wharf, and ride northward (toward Shizidao).
2. Bike Rental: Enter via “Dadaocheng Wharf” (Evacuation Gate 5), where there is a bike service station for rentals.
3. Driving: There is a parking lot at Dadaocheng Wharf (Evacuation Gate 5).
4. Bus:
〈1〉Take bus routes 9, 206, 274, 641, 669, or 704 and get off at Dadaocheng Wharf Station.
〈2〉Take bus routes 255, 518, or 539 and get off at Minsheng West Road Intersection Station.

Flower Viewing Spot: Shuangxi Riverside Park, located between Shuangxi Bridge and Shilin Bridge
1. Bike: Shuangxi Bike Rental Station (open on weekends), accessed by turning into the riverside park from Zhoumei Street, next to the bike path toward Zhoumei Bridge. There is a parking lot. From Section 5 to Section 6 of Chengde Road, turn left at Shuangxi Bridge onto Zhoumei Street to find it.

2. MRT: Take the MRT to Zhishan Station or Shilin Station, then head toward Shilin Bridge to reach the bike path entrance. Transfer to bus 68 at Jiantan Station.
3. Bus:
〈1〉Take bus routes Red 5, 206, 255, 260, or 285, get off at MRT Shilin Station, and then ride a bike in.
〈2〉Take bus 68, get off at Zhoumeili Station, and enter via the embankment slope.
