The hottest street food right now is red bean pancakes (also known as wheel cakes), and Taipei W Hotel has invited the popular Taichung queue-worthy spot “Fake Hipster Red Bean Pancakes” for a pop-up in Taipei. In addition to the W Hotel-exclusive lemon tart and cheese Iberico ham flavors, other popular flavors include Wandan red beans, Dajia taro, honey vanilla cream, and kimchi pork belly.

The founder of “Fake Hipster Red Bean Pancakes,” Yellow, is from Dajia, Taichung. In 2012, simply because his pregnant sister at the time wanted to eat red bean pancakes—but couldn’t find any on the market made with natural ingredients that she could eat with peace of mind—he decided to start a red bean pancake stall with a friend. They used a lot of local ingredients to develop healthy and delicious pancakes, so they didn’t hesitate to buy premium-quality red beans.

▲ The Taichung stall has been moved straight to Taipei, so the Taichung location will be closed for two weeks.

Yellow said that for this collaboration, they specially relocated the Dajia red bean pancake stall to the kitchen table. The original stall will be temporarily closed for two weeks. For this collaboration, they also developed two W Hotel-exclusive flavors: lemon tart and cheese Iberico ham. The lemon tart flavor uses fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, butter, and vanilla seeds to create a sweet and tangy taste; the cheese Iberico ham flavor features cheddar and mozzarella cheeses topped with slices of Iberico ham, offering gooey melted cheese and the savory richness of ham when served hot.
