April is the season when fireflies glow and dance through the night. Don’t have time to head to the suburbs to chase these elusive lights? Don’t worry—you can still see the “fire gold aunties” in vibrant Taipei City. The Taipei City Department of Parks and Recreation has identified four spots where fireflies can be found—Da’an Forest Park, Rongxing Garden, Muzha Cuihu, and Fuyang Park—and has put together detailed maps and transport information. Huang Liyuan, Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, said that fireflies were first spotted in Da’an Forest Park at the end of March, followed by sightings in Muzha Cuihu and Rongxing Garden in mid-April. The public is welcome to gather for firefly viewing, enjoying the twinkling lights of the insects in the breeze, accompanied by the sounds of nightlife and insects, for a rare and unique summer luminescence journey.

Lin Xianda, Director of the Yuan Shan Park Management Office under the Department of Parks and Recreation, said that every year from mid-April to mid-May is the mating season when fireflies glow. They flash in specific rhythms, creating a natural wonder. Among them, Fuyang Nature Park, Da’an Forest Park, and Rongxing Garden are all within a 10-minute walk from MRT stations, while Muzha Park has the largest population of fireflies and also offers very convenient bus and public transport options.
