The best time to see fireflies is every April, and in New Taipei City, besides the currently popular spots such as Wenshan Farm in Xindian District, Hemingshan Trail, Shifen Old Street in Pingxi District, and Xia'an'keng in Sanxia, the Agriculture Bureau has specially collaborated with district offices to launch a total of 55 firefly-watching locations. Everyone is invited to join a romantic summer firefly journey in New Taipei City.

▲ In recent years, firefly-watching activities have become very popular, and the New Taipei City Agriculture Bureau has compiled the latest “New Taipei City Firefly Watch Guide,” allowing enthusiasts to access the most up-to-date and comprehensive information.

Director of Agriculture Li Wen said that fireflies are an important indicator insect of the ecological environment, and both light pollution and environmental changes can affect their survival. Currently, over 60 species of fireflies have been discovered across Taiwan, with more than 24 species observable within New Taipei City. More than half of the administrative districts have firefly-watching spots, and this year three more locations have been added compared to last year.

A reminder to everyone:When watching fireflies, remember the “Three Nos and One Without” principle — no loud noises, no capturing, no shining lights directly at fireflies, and no light pollution. If you carry a flashlight, cover it with red cellophane to avoid disturbing the fireflies. The best time to view fireflies is from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Firefly habitats are often in low-visibility, light-pollution-free mountainous areas.
