Penghu Bay Selected as One of the “World’s Most Beautiful Bays,” Boosting Its International Status

The Penghu Bay has officially been approved by the review committee today to become a member of the "Organization of World Heritage Bays," and will receive the "Most Beautiful Bay" certification next year. ROC Representative to France Lü Qinglong, who has been actively promoting this initiative, stated that Penghu’s membership in the "Organization of World Heritage Bays" will help enhance the international visibility of Taiwan and Penghu, as well as Taiwan's experience in cooperating with international non-governmental organizations on environmental protection.

The “Organization of World’s Most Beautiful Bays” was established in 1997 as an international non-governmental organization supported by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Its primary mission is to protect the natural resources of bays around the world. Other members of this organization include 37 bays from 28 countries, such as San Francisco Bay in the United States, Qingdao Bay in mainland China, Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, and Mont Saint-Michel Bay in France.

Galip Gur, President of the Organization of World’s Most Beautiful Bays, stated that Penghu Bay has unique qualities. Both the local people and the Penghu County Government, along with the entire community, have made dedicated efforts to support the recognition of Penghu Bay as one of the world’s most beautiful bays. He hopes that Penghu will achieve a balance between tourism and environmental protection in the future.
