On the third day of the Taiwan International Surfing Competition, the official contests kicked off this morning (16th) at 7 AM with the mixed board paddle race. Just as the referee blew the whistle to signal the start of the wave riding, several beams of sunlight pierced through the clouds, bathing the entire sea surface in a golden glow. Combined with the towering waves and the surfers' battles against the surf, both domestic and international competitors as well as the spectators couldn't help but exclaim, "The sea view in Taitung is absolutely gorgeous!"

The 2012 Taiwan International Surfing Open, held at Jinzun Beach in Donghe Township, Taitung County, officially commenced its contests this morning. Events including the mixed board paddle, men's shortboard, and mixed longboard preliminaries were held in sequence. Competitors arrived in the dark before dawn. Thanks to excellent wave conditions and sunshine breaking through, everyone was energized. After the whistle blew, surfers from home and abroad paddled out one after another toward the surf zone to find the best waves. After accelerating, turning, and popping up, they rode the waves with stylish maneuvers — a spectacular sight that drew continuous applause and excited cheers from the crowd.

The competition site featured Taiwan’s first-ever double-decker judge stand and broadcast area, manned by the country’s highest-standard international judging panel, whose scoring professionalism earned the full respect of the athletes. Additionally, the surfing DJ handling the commentary not only kept everyone informed about the competition but also hyped up the atmosphere with witty remarks and uplifting music.

The semifinals will take place on the 17th, and the most exciting finals will be held on the 18th. The Taitung County Government, which is organizing this Taiwan International Surfing Open, has invited the largest number of world champion surfers ever to participate, and they will take the stage in the coming days.
