Low-cost carrier AirAsia (Asia’s airline), along with its long-haul subsidiary AirAsia X (Asia’s Long-Haul Airline), which specializes in flights over four hours, came to Taiwan for the first time today (30th) to recruit Taiwanese flight attendants in an effort to further penetrate the Taiwanese market. This marks the first time a foreign low-cost airline has recruited in Taiwan. Despite only having 23 positions available, more than a thousand people lined up to apply. Among them, a candidate who looked remarkably like celebrity Lin Zixuan became the focus of many. Not only was she dressed impeccably, but she also carried a viola, ready to deliver a “talent performance” upon entering.

Li Mengru, who turned heads with her viola, has been playing the instrument for ten years and is currently a music teacher specializing in teaching young children. She also regularly sings and performs at weddings and various events. Music is her biggest passion and specialty. Hoping to stand out with her instrument, Li Mengru not only has an attractive appearance and height but also bears a striking resemblance to a celebrity. Regarding this, Li Mengru smiled and admitted, “A lot of people say I look like celebrity Lin Zixuan!”

At 23 years old, Li Mengru spoke about her dreams without any shyness. “I want to be a flight attendant because I want to travel around the world.” Eager to see the world through her job, she has actively prepared for the application process. She has already participated in interviews with airlines such as EVA Air and TransAsia Airways. Although she has never been selected before, she remains undeterred and continues to try for various airlines. To leave a lasting impression on the interviewers, she prepared her specialty — the “viola” — hoping to be invited to perform a talent piece on the spot during the interview.

While waiting in line to be tested, Li Mengru, unable to resist repeated requests, opened the case of her viola and performed a short “viola show.” With her steady playing style, lively personality, and clear speech, even the reporters covering the event couldn’t help but repeatedly invite her, “If you don’t become a flight attendant, how about coming back to the TV station with me to be an anchor?” To this invitation, Li Mengru simply smiled and responded that she still hopes to try being a flight attendant first.

However, becoming a flight attendant isn’t so easy. According to Wang Yiren, general manager of the Aier Training Institution, to be hired as an AirAsia flight attendant this time, candidates not only need to be lively and enthusiastic but must also have a TOEIC score of 600 or above in English to stand a chance at landing this dream job — which offers a starting salary as high as NT$70,000 and has an acceptance rate of just 2.3%.
