“Wow, even the pores are glistening with oil!” Upon visiting this enticing “famous shop,” you’ll be amazed by the flagship “black bean curd” that boasts visibly porous, oily-shiny surfaces. With tiny holes seeping out a hint of braising juice, the outer layer offers a slight chew while the inside bursts with a tender, springy texture. This is the ultimate signature item of Daxi’s renowned old shop, “Old Uncle’s Freshly Braised Bean Curd.” When you’re here, forget about tight pores—“pore-rich and oily” is the way to go!

Located in Daxi Old Street, Taoyuan, the decades-old “Old Uncle’s Freshly Braised Bean Curd” is beloved not only for its locally sourced “black bean curd” but also for five vegetarian ingredients: hundred-sheet tofu, vegetarian chicken, vegetarian tripe, and vegetarian intestines. Each item proudly displays those “glistening oily pores” that make your mouth water. There are also choices like kelp and golden eggs—the tender kelp is richly aromatic, while the golden egg, soft inside with a firm exterior, exudes a deep, savory braising flavor.
The shop uses seven types of Chinese medicinal herbs to brew its exquisite braising broth, which thoroughly penetrates the “pores” of every braised item. Paired with a special spicy sauce, the flavors of saltiness, aroma, and spice blend with a tender texture that simply oozes from the braised goods—making it impossible to stop eating.
