Taichung Barbecue Recommendation: Youxi Barbecue
This “Youxi Barbecue” caught my attention right from when it started its renovation. One day, my friend asked me to go out for a meal and what I wanted to eat. The only things on my mind were barbecue and steak, but there are really so few barbecue restaurants open on weekdays at noon, and most of them I’ve already been to. After thinking it over, I suddenly remembered this newly opened “Youxi Barbecue,” and we came the very next day.

“Youxi Barbecue” is located near the intersection of Gōngyì Road and Wénxīn Road, and there are parking spaces right beside the restaurant. Nearby, there are also “Wuma Barbecue” and “SenSen Barbecue”—it’s truly a prime battleground for barbecue spots.

The decor of “Youxi Barbecue” is industrial-style, and the most eye-catching feature is probably the huge moon on the ceiling! There are also five little planets next to it!

The menu is something I took from the restaurant’s fan page. I’m not sure if it has been modified since then, but please refer to the official information provided by the restaurant.

On the day we dined, they only offered three set meals, seemingly a Christmas set, available only until January 1, 2018. After some discussion, we ordered the Double Live Lobster Premium Chilled Beef Set – NT$2,280

For sauces, there were Japanese soy sauce and lemon juice.

For the two-person set, you can choose two types of salads. We went with one Caesar salad and one Japanese-style salad; I personally prefer the Caesar salad.

The Korean kimchi was quite tasty, with an authentic Korean flavor.

Lettuce leaves – they’re free.

The chicken soup that almost every barbecue place now serves—there was no powder at the bottom of the bowl, which was reassuring.

For the main carb, there was only one option: white rice, which was pretty good with distinct, separate grains.

Drinks – sparkling drinks and fruit iced tea, both of which were not bad.

When this meat platter was served, it looked pretty impressive. The server even asked if we wanted to take a photo—very professional!

1855PRIME chilled beef short ribs + 1855PRIME wing meat – felt like the meat platter had quite a premium feel...

You can flip the meat over once there’s not much blood left, then grill it a little more before eating. Both types of meat were delicious; I preferred the beef short ribs.

Marinated selected beef for barbecue – it was pretty good, though a few pieces were sliced as thin as diced meat, but they still served them that way, in our opinion.

Then they brought out another layer of pork belly… (that’s pretty much standard equipment at barbecue joints these days!XD)

Matsusaka pork + pork collar

The Matsusaka pork was really delicious!

Warm chicken thigh + chicken wing tip

Snowflake beef

So fatty! After one bite, I gave up.

Live Boston lobster – the server said it was freshly killed!

No exaggeration!I was really too full to eat any more, so I only had one piece. As for the freshly killed one, well, the texture was super Q and springy—delicious!

Dessert / popcorn ice cream + freshly made cheese – we didn’t touch either dessert at all!We were absolutely stuffed!
Overall, the meal at "Yuxi Yakiniku" that day was quite good, though the prices are relatively on the higher side. Sharing this for those who might be interested. Up!Thanks Teresa, for the food and drinks!XD
