Last updated 2026-09-26 — The weather has turned really cold, so it’s time to write about some hot soup dishes that fit the season. When it comes to soup, my top choice is definitely beef soup. The weather has turned really cold, so it’s time to write about some hot soup dishes that fit the season. When it comes to soup, my top choice is definitely beef soup. One day during lunchtime, I passed through Madou and decided to stop by Ah Rong Beef Soup on my must-try list. It was better than just always eating at Niu Zhuangyuan — that was getting a bit too repetitive and uninspired!

The storefront of Ah Rong Beef Soup is quite narrow, but the interior has plenty of spacious seating, plus air conditioning and TV — a well-equipped snack shop, you could say.

Dine-in: All-you-can-eat pork fried rice

The rice is a bit dry and hard, the pork has a fair amount of fat, and it’s stewed to rich aroma. Adding pepper makes it even tastier. To be honest, it surprised me how good it was — it’s actually better than some dedicated pork fried rice shops in the city. For an all-you-can-eat pork fried rice option, it’s flawless.

The broth is a refreshing beef bone-based style

Whether it’s pork belly or regular meat, the quality is above average, and the highlight is the refreshing and enjoyable broth.

The mustard greens beef stir-fry is very fragrant with a slight wok hei (breath of the wok), and the seasoning is slightly sweet.

The scallion egg is thick and big. When it was served, it immediately reminded me of a Western-style breakfast omelette, except our Taiwanese version adds lots of scallions... more clever?!

I ended up having lunch at Ah Rong Beef Soup by chance, and I was genuinely impressed by the overall quality. It was truly an unexpected delight. I think it’s a beef soup spot that offers great value. I’m glad we now have another beef soup option in Madou besides Niu Zhuangyuan. This strategically located spot near the freeway entrance is incredibly worthwhile!

As I wrap up this article, I’d like to ask all you know-it-alls: there are three Ah Rong Beef Soups listed — in Dawan, Madou, and Xinshe. Are they related in any way? Otherwise, why do they all use the same name? I’m really curious!
