The “2017 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival” kicks off today and will run until January 7, 2018, at the Houli Flower Field Green Corridor, presenting a vibrant display of colors and floral artistry. Coinciding with the New Year celebration, the city government will host the grand “2018 Starry Splendor: Welcoming the Flower Expo” countdown party at Leofoo Resort in Houli on December 31. The Tourism Bureau has specially launched the “Explore the flower carpet by day, welcome the New Year by night” program, allowing the public to easily enjoy the floral beauty and ring in the new year.
This is the second consecutive year that the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival is held in Houli, also serving as a prelude to the 2018 Flower Expo. Throughout the event period, free shuttle buses will be available daily to take you directly and conveniently to the flower carpet. To facilitate flower viewing, the Transportation Bureau has planned five shuttle bus routes to the festival venue during the Flower Carpet Festival, with each route distinguished by color to enhance convenience for passengers.
Chen Sheng-shan, Director of the Tourism Bureau, said that the theme of this year’s flower carpet exhibition area is “The Sound of Blooming Flowers.” It features Taiwan’s first-ever giant dynamic musical flower box, along with vast expanses of beautiful flower fields, as well as playful three-dimensional floral installations in the shapes of insects and animals, offering visitors a visually stunning floral experience. The New Year’s Day holiday period is expected to draw even larger crowds to enjoy the flowers.
In line with the Flower Carpet Festival’s theme of “green environmental protection” and the core concept of “GREEN” for the 2018 World Flora Exposition, the main transportation strategy this year is to combine full shuttle service with rail transit. In addition to using colors to manage the various shuttle routes, the shuttle system also incorporates the Flower Expo’s “Formosan Clouded Leopard Family” characters — Papa Leopard, Mama Leopard, Baby Leopard, Happy Leopard, and Omega Horse — each representing a different route. These character-themed routes make it fun and easy for the public to explore the flower carpet by simply following the color-coded shuttles.
The Tourism Bureau emphasizes that during the event, the public is urged to cooperate with traffic police on-site for traffic guidance and control. Shuttle buses to the exhibition area will operate from 8:20 AM to 3:00 PM (with the last bus to the exhibition area departing at 3:00 PM), while return trips (from the exhibition area back to major shuttle stations) will run from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Please pay close attention to the shuttle bus schedules.
