A fireworks show with a total length of nearly 360 seconds—the longest in history—is set to light up Taipei 101. If you want to catch the show without the crowds, riverside parks are a solid option. The Taipei City Water Resources Department says the best choices on the Keelung River riverside parks are the Rainbow and Meiti Riverside Parks on the right bank. Meanwhile, the Guanshan and Yingfeng Riverside Parks on the left bank allow you to clearly see both the Taipei 101 fireworks and those from Miramar Shopping Center, making them ideal spots that give you double the enjoyment.

The Water Resources Department says that this year, the Taipei 101 fireworks feature 140,000 LEDs forming a T-PAD light screen spectacular, paired with the longest-ever fireworks display—it’s definitely something to look forward to. Notably, the LED light screen is installed on the north side of Taipei 101, and considering that Taipei often experiences northeast monsoons in winter, the Rainbow Riverside Park is your top pick for viewing the fireworks. Located to the north-northeast of Taipei 101, the park is in an upwind area, so you’ll not only get a clear view of the fireworks but also enjoy both the Taipei 101 fireworks and the light show.

If you’re keen to see the equally highly anticipated 299-second Miramar Starry Sky Fireworks, the department recommends Meiti Riverside Park. With its vast grounds and expansive views, it provides a great foreground of the Keelung River and reflections of the lights ahead for photographing the fireworks. Plan a half-day trip to Meiti Riverside for the fireworks—spend the afternoon biking along the riverside for some exercise before heading out to enjoy the night show, making your New Year's holiday even more fulfilling.

The Water Resources Department points out that the combination of fireworks, lighting, and bridge reflections over the river creates excellent photo opportunities, making these parks popular spots among photographers for capturing the New Year’s Eve fireworks in recent years. Not only can you avoid the crowds, but there are also nearby parking lots for added convenience. In addition, the Guanshan Riverside Park (by Keelung River Water Gate No. 14) currently features a vibrant sea of 140,000 pots of seasonal flowers in full bloom. There are also flower displays at Guting and Daonan Riverside Parks. These flower blooms will last until mid-January next year, so during the New Year’s holiday, visitors are welcome to come admire the flowers and welcome the new year.
