In the transition from late spring to early summer, enjoying a rich scoop of ice cream is a delightful treat on a sunny day. Nestled alongside a bustling road in Taipei’s Minsheng community, a handmade ice cream shop stands out with its lively décor, a stark contrast to the hurried pace of office workers — inevitably catching the eyes of passersby. One bite of its soft, handmade ice cream instantly brings the taste of summer to mind.

“Welcome to Ice-on!” In the afternoon, the staff greet passersby at the entrance in unison, a warm welcome that signals the arrival of summer. Every flavor of ice cream is available for sampling. The owner explains that all flavors are handmade, with unique ingredient ratios that differ from other brands — they’re low in calories and fat. The flavors follow an “original creation” concept, so you’ll find unusual offerings like plum and guava, Chilean red grapes, and Italian pistachio.

The ice cream cones are also handmade cookies baked in-store, with just the right thickness and crispness. For those not used to more adventurous flavors, German vanilla might be the best choice.
