To balance energy conservation, carbon reduction, and tourism, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has partnered with all 22 counties and cities across Taiwan to promote low-carbon travel via public transport and the “Taiwan’s Top 10 Happiness & Fun Travel Itineraries” voting campaign. The itineraries are divided into one-day and two-day trips. The counties and cities have gone all out in their promotion efforts. At a press conference on the 3rd, not only did they bring out adorable plush dolls to attract attention, but they also created fun QR codes to encourage visitors to vote online via their mobile phones.

The “Taiwan’s Top 10 Happiness & Fun Travel Itineraries” covers all 22 counties and cities, recommending travel routes for both one-day and two-day trips. Tourism Bureau Director-General Xie Weijun stated that the goal of this promotional campaign is to encourage the use of public transport and make travel more relaxing, allowing both domestic and international tourists to experience the beauty of Taiwan at a different “pace.”

The final voting results will be determined not only by online public votes but also by scores from professional judges who visit the sites. Combining “food, fun, and activities,” the organizers specially invited food critic Hu Tianlan and renowned travel writer Liu Kexiang. The selection results will be announced in late July. To rally support, representatives from various counties and cities pulled out all the stops at the press conference. Nantou brought out adorable monster representatives and a monster-themed mailbox, while Keelung featured a municipal bird eagle plush doll. The event was filled with cute mascots, attracting many passersby. Children were especially excited, squealing with delight.

Currently, the counties and cities shortlisted for the one-day trip finals include Chiayi County, Tainan City, Yilan County, Taipei City, Yunlin County, Changhua County, Pingtung County, Keelung City, Chiayi City, Nantou County, Kaohsiung City, New Taipei City, and Hsinchu County. For the two-day trip finals, the shortlisted areas are Taipei City, Tainan City, Yilan County, Matsu, Pingtung County, Kinmen County, Nantou County, Kaohsiung City, New Taipei City, Hualien County, Penghu County, Taichung City, and Taitung County.

Food travel expert Hu Tianlan took the stage to cheer on the counties and cities, also saying that Taiwan shouldn’t sell itself short—many delicious foods and beautiful spots are right here. “Taiwan isn’t just about xiaolongbao and pineapple cakes. For instance, I once had wild ginger flower zongzi in Neiwan—it was so fragrant. And there’s the Assam cheese cake from Nantou, made by young people who quit their jobs to produce it. That’s also a shining light for Taiwan!”

Additionally, to encourage public participation in the “Taiwan’s Top 10 Happiness & Fun Travel Itineraries” voting, the Tourism Bureau has prepared several great prizes. During the campaign period, the public can vote online for their favorite itinerary and have a chance to win convenience store gift vouchers worth NT$1,000, a driving recorder, or even a NT$12,000 accommodation voucher for a “Classic Suite” at the Far Eastern Hotel in Hualien.
