Taichung's Liuchuan Underwater Christmas Tree Ends on Dec. 26; Light Art Exhibition Runs Until March 2018

After Christmas, the Taichung City Government created Taiwan’s first underwater Christmas tree at the popular Liuchuan attraction, which will be on display until Dec. 26. However, surrounding light art installations — including oversized gift boxes, romantic tulips, rose seas, illuminated bridge corridors, and a colorful heart-shaped tree — will continue to be exhibited until March 4, 2018.

This year (2017), the Taichung City Government set up Taiwan’s first underwater Christmas tree in Liuchuan, standing at 9 meters tall. Since being lit up on Dec. 9, it has become a major attraction and a must-visit spot for photos. The 17-day event attracted nearly 200,000 visitors. While the underwater Christmas tree will end on Dec. 26, the “Creative Art Light Exhibition” organized by the Water Resources Bureau will continue until March 4, 2018 (Year 107 in the Republic of China calendar).

The “Creative Art Light Exhibition” is illuminated daily from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. During holiday periods such as New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year’s Eve to the fifth day of the lunar new year (Feb. 15 to Feb. 20), and the Lantern Festival (March 2), the lights will stay on until 11:00 p.m. Due to the fragility of the LED net lights, to protect the lighting equipment and ensure public safety, visitors are reminded to take photos only from the pedestrian walkways, avoid stepping onto the lawns, and also reduce the risk of electric shock.
