Japan’s “Fūryū-dō” tourism route is all the rage！ Explore the most beautiful scenic spots

Traveling to Japan is a popular choice for Taiwanese tourists, but when deciding on a “region,” most travelers still choose areas such as Tokyo, Osaka, Hokkaido, or Okinawa. In fact, back in 2012, nine prefectures and cities in central Japan had already jointly launched the “Fūryū-dō” tourism route to let visitors to central Japan take in a handpicked selection of scenic spots.

The concept of “Fūryū-dō” is inspired by the “dragon,” which is beloved by Chinese people. The protruding section of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture resembles the dragon’s head, while Mie Prefecture forms the dragon’s tail, with the dragon’s body stretching across nine central prefectures—hence the name “Fūryū-dō.”

The scenic beauty within the Fūryū-dō tourism area includes not only the much-talked-about Mount Fuji, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go with its gassho-style architecture, and the stunning Alpine Route of Tateyama Kurobe, but also Nagoya Castle, located more centrally—all of which showcase the strength of Japan’s tourism landscape. To make it easier for Taiwanese travelers to plan their trips, the Chubu Wide Area Tourism Promotion Council has also introduced the “Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter Top 100” recommended itineraries, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of Japan’s seasonal changes throughout the year.

On the 14th of this month, Laura Cha, President of the Taiwan Visitors Association, also signed the “Memorandum of Tourism Friendship and Mutual Benefit Exchange” on behalf of Taiwan with Mr. Mitsuo Mita, President of the Chubu Wide Area Tourism Promotion Council, in hopes of promoting the tourism markets
