Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
Could fasting during a flight actually help reduce the discomfort of jet lag? Accordingto foreign mediareports, Melissa Biggs Bradley, founder of luxury travel company Indagare, recently shared her travel tips in an interview with Bloomberg. The most important one is that “flight attendants don’t eat on the plane,” as eating during a flight can make you more susceptible to the annoying effects of jet lag.
Biggs Bradley once took a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to New York. During the 17-hour journey, a flight attendant told her that the trick to avoiding jet lag was not eating on the plane. Biggs Bradley has also discussed this topic with many flight attendants and discovered a secret that’s passed around among them. Because when flying at high altitudes, your digestive system essentially shuts down, as if it’s been anesthetized. It doesn’t restart until you land.

Many people like to eat on the plane, mostly to distract themselves or pass the time. But even the highest-quality airplane food is overly salty or preserved so it can be heated in a microwave. Her advice is to eat a full meal a few hours before boarding, otherwise your stomach will start growling as soon as you’re on the plane.
