Early Summer Lotus Viewing in Baihe, Tainan – Admire the Grace of Water Nymphs

As early summer arrives, the tung blossom season comes to an end, but it is soon followed by the lotus season, known as the "water nymphs." The lotus viewing period extends from May to August. The lotuses in Baihe, Tainan, are cultivated on a commercial scale, covering a vast area. This year’s (2013) "Baihe Lotus Festival" is scheduled to kick off on June 15, but many lotuses have already bloomed, showcasing their charm.

To promote in-depth local tourism, this year’s Baihe Lotus Festival features 36 diverse activities, including rural experiences, cultural events, and sports. On the opening day, June 15, events such as cycling tours, DIY lotus-themed plush toys, red turtle cake making, agricultural product DIY experiences, rural food tasting, and a rural photography competition will be held.

According to statistics, the area of lotus fields in Baihe this year is approximately 170 hectares, a significant increase from the 140 hectares in 2012. Meanwhile, the Agriculture Bureau has created a "Lotus Avenue" along both sides of Dade Street, stretching nearly 1 kilometer, which is also the most concentrated area of lotus fields, offering visitors from across the country a place to admire the lotuses and relax.

In addition to the Baihe Lotus Festival, other popular spots for lotus viewing include Taipei Botanical Garden, Zhongxing New Village in Nantou, Guanyin in Taoyuan, Matai’an in Hualien, and more. Additionally, the semi-circular pond in the front courtyard of the historic Zhao family residence in Qingshui, Taichung, is planted with large expanses of lotus and water lilies, creating a picturesque scene when the lotuses are in full bloom.
