Taipei’s Second-Best Souvenir: Mung Bean Cake Takes the Crown

It’s mung bean cake after all!* After more than two months of fierce competition, the results of the “Taipei’s Second Souvenir” poll were announced today (13th). The winner, with 2,882 votes, is mung bean cake. Other desserts that participated in the vote included longan cake, banana cake, nougat, pine nut cake, and Little Top Scholar Cake. Taipei City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau Director Zhao Xinpeng also made an appeal at the press conference, calling for “mung bean cake to become the next golden brick miracle.”

Organizers stated that this year’s “Taipei Pineapple Cake Culture Festival” will host a mung bean cake competition for the first time. Multiple bakeries will compete on the same stage, with the best traditional-style mung bean cake and mung bean ice cake (in terms of appearance and taste) to be selected. The public is welcome to come and sample them.

This year’s Pineapple Cake Culture Festival will be held from June 21 to June 23 at the Taipei Expo Expo Dome. Entry is free and opens daily at 10:00 AM. The first 1,000 visitors each day will also receive a free pineapple cake, plus there will be DIY experience workshops for Taipei’s second-best souvenir.

Since its launch in 2006, the “Taipei Pineapple Cake Culture Festival” has not only received an enthusiastic response from domestic visitors but has also created the “Taipei Golden Brick” legend for Taiwan, successfully marketing delicious Taiwanese pastries such as pineapple cakes around the world.
