Red Matsu Port Cultural Park Delivers Christmas Warmth by Inviting Underprivileged Children to Visit

On the eve of Christmas, the Kaohsiung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, in collaboration with Kaohsiung Big City Department Store and the Andrew’s Food Bank, invited children from disadvantaged families to visit the park. With guides providing commentary, the children learned about the historical development of Kaohsiung Harbor and Red Matsu Port, allowing them to connect with the city’s culture and history through a fun, playful experience.

This public welfare event was a joint effort by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Kaohsiung Big City Department Store, and Andrew’s Food Bank. The department store handled promotional efforts and fundraising, the Red Matsu Port Cultural Park provided the venue and free admission tickets, while Andrew’s Food Bank prepared “meal food packages” and school supplies to give to the children.

Located at the entrance of the second harbor of Kaohsiung Port, the Red Matsu Port Cultural Park was developed by repurposing the original High Tower and integrating it with the surrounding environment. The park consists of six major areas: the “High Tower Revolving Restaurant,” “Exhibition Hall,” “Outdoor Exhibition Area,” “Skywalk,” “Pier and Waiting Room,” and “Seaview Platform.” Through creative exhibition planning, it showcases cultural features passed down through generations of Red Matsu Port residents, including “o_ lake,” “shrimp seedling farming,” “cuttlefish and kahwee fishing,” “local temples,” and “the charm of sail rafts.”
