【Travel Fun Fact】Travelling Across 21 Countries for 5 Years with a 500-Pound Piano!

To fulfill their travel dreams, some people choose to quit their jobs. Five years ago, American Dotan Negrin gave up his stable nine-to-five job, sold all his belongings to buy a van, and set off on a global journey with his dog Brando and a piano worth about HK$6,000. Most street performance instruments are chosen for their portability, but he opted to push a 500-pound piano, pursuing a unique musical dream.

Over the past five years, he has visited 21 countries and over 300 cities, including performing in front of landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Brooklyn Bridge, as well as on streets and alleys—seemingly turning every corner into his stage. He’s jammed with others and played to packed audiences, and even had two fingers broken by the piano, yet Dotan still enjoys it.

Driving a van that serves both as transportation and accommodation, he has occasionally met generous strangers who offered him comfortable lodging. Still on the road, it remains unknown whether he’ll come to Hong Kong.
