Taiwan’s First! Ride into Taitung’s Skywalk

When people think of skywalks, they usually assume they’re only for pedestrians, butTaiwanhas recently unveiled a new attraction that not only allows walking but is also open to cycling enthusiasts. InTaitungthe “Jialan Skywalk” in Jinfeng Township stands out as it is built along the mountainside, 20 meters above the river. Part of the walkway features a glass bottom, offering views of the riverbed. Although it was once affected by landslides, after restoring vegetation, installing protective iron nets, and applying shotcrete, the situation improved. The project was eventually completed after nearly a year and a half. Previously, local villagers had to take long detours around the mountains to get around, but now the skywalk connects two new bridges in Jalan Village—Lawan and Lalingling—forming a 6.7-kilometer circular village biking trail.

This so-called circular route goes from the direction of Jalan Village to the Lalingling tribe, passes through the Lawan tribe, and then returns to the starting point via the Lawan Bridge. In the future, both sides will be adorned with various flowers such as roselle and crimson glory vine flower fields, which are expected to attract even more cycling enthusiasts when in full bloom.

And besides this new skywalk,Taitungalso boasts plenty of other great attractions.
