CNN Recommends – The World’s 10 Most Beautiful Cycling Routes (Part 2)

Many countries offer affordable city bike rental services, and slow-cruising cities on two wheels has become a new trend. But if you’re not familiar with local traffic signs, it's better to stick to cycling paths or routes frequented by other cyclists—much safer than wandering around the city aimlessly. CNN’s travel website CNNGO previously released a list of the world’s top ten most beautiful cycling routes, spanning from Canada in the northern hemisphere to New Zealand in the southern hemisphere. Asia is represented with India’s Udaipur City, the Karakoram Highway, and the lakeside route around Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan. 6. The Route des Grands Crus (Route of the Great Crus) – Burgundy

France, famous for its red and white wines, offers a 800-kilometer journey through vineyards and wineries where you can take in the rolling hills and stop anytime for a sip. Of course, avoid cycling after drinking too much to prevent accidents.

7. Molesworth Road, Christchurch, New Zealand

This 320-kilometer road is only open from December 28 to April 1 of the following year. Due to its length, you’ll need to set aside at least five days to complete it. As an uphill route, it’s tough but rewards you with views of farmlands in villages, and you can also visit the famous Hanmer Springs along the way.

8. P’tit Train du Nord Linear Park, Quebec, Canada

Compared to the previous few routes spanning three to four hundred kilometers, this one stretches only 200 kilometers from Saint-Jérôme to Mont-Laurier. It was converted from a railway line into an asphalt road, so it requires relatively less technical skill but still tests your endurance. The scenery includes European-style villages, Mont-Tremblant, and spectacular resorts atop the mountains.

9. The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, Canada to the United States

If you think the above routes aren’t challenging enough, try the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, which is ten times longer—stretching 4,418 kilometers from Banff to the Mexican border, with altitudes reaching up to 3,600 meters. This is currently known as the longest continuous cycling route in the world and is surely the ultimate goal for biking enthusiasts.

10. Cycle Route 10, Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Netherlands is a cycling nation, so it’s no surprise to see it on the list. Cycle Route 10 spans 42 kilometers, passing through both rural and urban areas with historic sights to enjoy. And, of course, there are the country’s iconic windmills and street markets like Albert Cuyp.
