Food, fireworks, and music — the Wanggong Fishing Fire Festival will light up next month

The annual Wanggong Fishing Fire Festival is set to take place on July 13 and 14. This year, there are six main event themes: the Ocean Music Festival, dazzling fireworks show, Wanggong Story House, Wanggong Star – Cultural & Historical Exhibition, Seafood Feast, and Blessing Carnival, all showcasing the local charm and beautiful harbor culture of Wanggong in Changhua.

The twinkling fishing lights, resembling stars scattered across the deep harbor, have earned Wanggong Fishing Fire a place among the Eight Scenic Spots of Changhua. However, the grandeur of the past has faded over time. In recent years, the Changhua County Government has actively transformed and revitalized the fishing port, developing Wanggong Fishing Port into a leisure and tourism destination. Now in its 8th year, the Wanggong Fishing Fire Festival attracts large crowds with events such as ocean rock music performances and fireworks shows.

Wanggong’s most famous snack is "oyster fritter" (蚵嗲), centered around oysters with fillings that may include pork, squid, or mixed flavors, offering a variety of taste options. Another renowned local treat is "bamboo stick ice" (枝仔冰). On Fanghan Road’s food street, there are two shops over 50 years old that still make the ice cream using traditional handmade methods. Flavors include plain ice, red bean, taro, peanut, pineapple, and passion fruit.
