【Travel Fun Fact】Russia’s Giant Ice Sculpture Array Transforms into a Wish “Library”

When it comes to wish-making spots in Hong Kong, many would think of Lam Tsuen in Tai Po. Every Lunar New Year, devotees flock here to throw joss paper scrolls, praying for good health in the new year. Meanwhile, far awayRussia, there’s actually a special method of making wishes — by carving them onto blocks of ice.

This giant ice sculpture array is locatedin Russianear Lake Baikal. This year, the organizers collected over a thousand wishes from around the world, which were carved onto ice blocks in various languages.

These wishes are incredibly diverse — some pray for love, while others hope to travel to space. All are displayed on 420 “ice books” in Russian, English, Chinese, and Korean. The organizers aim to categorize these wishes to better understand the thoughts of people from different parts of the world.

This “Wish Library” will open this Saturday locally and is expected to remain until the snow melts in April. If you have the chance, it’s worth a visit.
