Limited Private Photo Spots on Nangan, Matsu for the Blue Tears Outbreak Season

The sea glows with shimmering blue light in the darkness. From April to September every year, it’sMatsuBlue Tears season. The appearance of the “Blue Tears” is often a matter of chance and depends on external factors such as temperature, wind direction, moonlight, ocean currents, and tides—only then can you enjoy this fantastical beauty.

In fact, the “Blue Tears” are notunique to Matsu—they can also be seen in Kinmen, Hong Kong, Macau, the Maldives, and Vaadhoo Island—butTaiwan’sMatsuoffers particularly frequent sightings.

Matsuwas once a simple fishing village that suddenly transformed into a military stronghold during the war of resistance. Now, having shed its wartime role, it has reclaimed its former simplicity. Historical sites and military structures such as Iron Fort and underground tunnels have becomeMatsu’sdistinctive features and also serve as backdrops for photographing the Blue Tears.

To capture the Blue Tears,the Matsuarchipelago offers multiple viewing spots.

Beigan: Maibi Bay, Tanghou Beach, Qiaozai Village, Luobangshan, Banli Beach; Nangan: Dahang Outpost, Jinsha Beach, Hanlin Cape, Shanlong Seawall, Furong’ao; Dongju: Fuzheng Beach, Lighthouse (Qingshan Islet), Dapu Stone Carvings, Meng’ao Wharf

Xiju: Caipu’ao, Kunwu Beach, Qingfan Harbor Outer Breakwater

Dongyin: Northwest of Zhongzhu Island, Beiao, Hou’ao
