Huadong Breathe Homestay welcomes pets – super cute "public relations cats" even walk guests to the alleyway

Where should you stay when traveling with dogs? Nearly all hotels across Taiwan have a “no pets allowed” policy, yet many homestays open their doors to cats and dogs, andBreathe Homestay in Hualien County’s Ji’an Townshipis one of them. Since opening, owners Zhang Baochuan and Pan Jinlian have always warmly welcomed furry guests and also enthusiastically recommend local pet-friendly attractions. The homestay also has “public relations cats” for company, and one of them has even seen guests off all the way to the alley – such thoughtfulness is simply heart-melting.

The owners of Breathe Homestay each have adorable nicknames – guests call them “the landlord” and “the landlady.” The couple are environmentally conscious and respect life. Their yard is full of greenery, and they place small potted plants in the rooms. They also make homemade natural fragrance bottles, allowing guests to relax fully through breathing in natural scents. Five or six cats serve as the best “cat PRs,” and with their quiet companionship, both body and mind are healed.

The landlady said that her family has cats and has also kept dogs, “so we know they are part of every family’s life, and of course people want to bring them along when traveling.” That’s why she warmly welcomes furry kids to stay in the room with their owners. But if pet hair gets on the bed, it’s really hard to clean – often requiring hand-washing and scrubbing, and it still might not come out clean. “And we also need to respect other guests who don’t have pets, which is why we have the rule that pets can’t go on the beds.”

Although some guests have broken the rules, most are happy to cooperate, and the quality of travelers is getting better. The landlady said, “Once, a guest with a Golden Retriever even brought their own paper mop and cleaned the room spotlessly.” She was very moved. “There are still many people who are willing to cherish the limited pet-friendly resources!” Not taking convenience for granted is the only way to prevent businesses from becoming reluctant to host “furry VIPs.” There should be mutual understanding between guests and hosts, and a positive cycle in society’s view of pets will lead to more and more people welcoming furry guests.

Currently, the homestay regularly hosts six cats, one of which is always “hiding,” while the other five are often in the living room or garden, quietly and kindly keeping each guest company without being overbearing or intrusive. Most of them were stray cats before being fed and taken in by the kind-hearted landlady. Among them, the most thoughtful and professional “public relations cat” is “Momo,” who greets guests at the front desk early every morning and is extremely friendly. “There was even a guest who left, and Momo actually saw them off, walking all the way to the alley before turning back!”

The landlord is well-versed in in-depth travel around Hualien. If guests are traveling with pets, he is more than happy to offer consultation services. 1. Pets should not be allowed on beds, and their waste and barking must be manageable without disturbing others.
