The high-speed passenger ferry “Sea Strait” from Fujian will commence its inaugural voyage at Taipei Port on October 9, with a press conference held today (the 2nd). This marks the first time Taipei Port has activated its “passenger transport” service mechanism, as well as the first entry of a mainland-operated ferry into Northern Taiwan, setting a new milestone for direct cross-strait shipping. In the future, travelers will be able to reach Pingtan from Taipei in just three hours, offering yet another convenient option for tourism and business trips to Mainland China.

The Fujian “Sea Strait” is one of the few fastest high-speed roll-on/roll-off passenger ferries in the world, featuring an all-aluminum catamaran hull. It measures 97.22 meters in length, 26.6 meters in width, with a total gross tonnage of 6,556 tons and a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The vessel has four decks for cargo and passengers: the first and second decks are for vehicles, while the third and fourth are designated for passengers and the cockpit, respectively. According to passengers who have traveled on the Sea Strait between Taichung and Pingtan, although the ship is medium-sized and may sway during transit, it is generally stable unless encountering rough seas, making seasickness unlikely. Motion sickness medication is also readily available for free on board.
