Dressing up as "crabs" for a walk — The Wanli Crab Festival kicks off

Crab season is here！ New Taipei City Government held the Wanli Crab Festival today (12th) at Yehliu Fishing Port, attracting over 3,000 visitors. Among the activities, the "fun-themed costume walk" saw many participants dressed in crab costumes, their amusing looks catching everyone’s eye.

As part of the series of crab season events, the Wanli Crab Festival kicked off early in the morning at 8 AM with a fun-themed costume walk. Participants turned up in stylish and creative crab outfits, offering a delightful visual feast. The parade made its way through Yehliu Fishing Port, creating a fun and lively scene. There was also a lucky draw for gift bags, with limited-edition 2-jin (1 kg) portions of Wanli crabs — only 600 available — drawing early crowds of crab-loving visitors. The organizers also ran a “Find the Crab Boss” activity, giving an extra jin (500g) of crab to those whose names sounded like “crab.” At noon, a seaside feast featured generous servings of Wanli crab cuisine that had everyone’s mouths watering. The sweet, succulent Wanli crabs, paired with the freshest local seafood, left diners who won the lucky draw thoroughly satisfied.

The event also offered the chance to go crabbing at sea, with non-stop registration from eager participants. Everyone joined the crab fishing boats to head out to sea and gain an in-depth understanding of the hard work fishermen put into catching Wanli crabs, making the experience especially memorable for both kids and adults. Meanwhile, the cultural tour of the historic fishing village allowed visitors to explore Yehliu Fishing Village, which has a history of over 300 years. In addition to its bounty of fresh seafood, the village offers a rich cultural experience, both intellectual and emotional, waiting to be discovered.

The Agriculture Bureau announced that from October 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27 (a total of five days), a holiday auction market will be held next to the security office at Yehliu Fishing Port. Additionally, to help the public understand the hardships of fishermen at sea and promote the sustainable management of marine resources, the Agriculture Bureau has specially produced a short film this year titled “Feeling Grateful, Home’s Flavor.” Using a short cinematic approach, the film conveys the conservation message behind Wanli crabs: catch the big, release the small, and don’t take female crabs carrying eggs. From now until October 31, visitors who watch the film on the official website and then share it or post their thoughts and reflections will have a chance to win prizes worth over NT$1,000.
