Discover the Hometown of Pouchong Tea – Head to Nangang Tea Factory for a Tea Tasting Experience

The distinctive fragrance of Taiwanese Pouchong tea is beloved by many, but most people don’t know that the Jiuzhuang tea hills in Nangang are the birthplace of Pouchong tea. Since last year, the Nangang Tea Manufacturing Demonstration Factory has been renovated and transformed into a tourist factory, now open to the public. In conjunction with the annual Nangang Osmanthus Festival, the factory promotes local tea and allows visitors to enjoy tea tasting and experience the unique Pouchong tea culture of Nangang.

After being transformed into a tourist factory, the Nangang Tea Manufacturing Factory is open every Saturday and Sunday. The tea factory collaborates with local tea plantations to sell its own tea and regularly holds guided tours, tea-tasting lectures, and other events to promote tea culture. The tea factory also connects with nearby attractions such as the Osmanthus Suspension Bridge Trail, Osmanthus Pavilion Trail, and Mountain Loop Trail, allowing visitors to enjoy both tea and nature.

This year’s Nangang Osmanthus Festival will host a “Tea Culture Eco-Festival” on October 26. The event will showcase dyeing master Lai Fengqin’s works, along with tea culture, natural ecology tours, Chinese, English, and Japanese tea ceremony classes, and an osmanthus tea mountain music feast.Registration is required online.。

 The Nangang Pouchong tea region currently covers about 60 hectares. In addition to being the birthplace of Pouchong tea, the Jiuzhuang tea hills have been famous for their abundant osmanthus since the Japanese colonial period. According to the North Taiwan Development Bureau, when tea production technology was less advanced in the early days, tea farmers used the fragrance of osmanthus to enhance the aroma of their tea. This gave Pouchong tea not only the scent of tea leaves but also the fragrance of osmanthus.
