Keelung’s Not Just the Yellow Rubber Duck Getting Dirty—The Windmill Duck Is Also Turning “Black”

Since arriving in Keelung, the yellow rubber duck hasn’t garnered the most attention for the daily crowds it draws, but rather for the dirt that clings to it and won’t seem to go away. Another victim of this is the “windmill version of the yellow duck,” made from 100,000 windmills assembled on the grass in the suburbs of Keelung. After days of heavy rain, the “windmill duck” has also taken on a blackish hue, no longer as bright and vivid as before.

When the weather finally cleared up, many “duck fans” seized the opportunity to visit Keelung to see the yellow rubber duck, and on the way, stopped by the Yongheng Cultural and Creative Park in the suburbs of Keelung to admire the semi-three-dimensional “windmill duck” made from over 100,000 yellow windmills arranged along the hillside. But the windmill duck, which used to shine as brightly as a yellow carpet, is now stained with black, and many visitors have remarked, “Why do both ducks in Keelung look so dirty?”

In response, the Yongheng Cultural and Creative Park explained that due to the heavy rain, the “windmill duck” got soaked, causing many of the windmills to fade and become stained. Coupled with the mountainous location, where fog often lingers, the “windmill duck” now looks just as “dark” as the yellow rubber duck. The park will also arrange for personnel to carry out maintenance and cleaning soon, aiming to restore the “windmill duck” to its former bright and beautiful state.
