Taipei street food stall: Q-textured shrimp and chive wontons, hearty hot and sour soup!

(Unexpectedly found my favorite hot and sour soup)

A trusted foodie friend once said, "My favorite chive wontons," and ever since, I couldn't stop thinking about them until I finally got to try them today. The shop is called A’E, and it was the afternoon with no special crowd.

Hot and sour soup (NT$25)

Possibly the most satisfying hot and sour soup I’ve had in recent years. The broth isn’t overly sour, the pepper is just right, and although there’s a lot of ingredients, they blend well with the soup.

The wontons aren’t particularly delicate—some had cracked skins—but the filling is flavorful and appealing even without dipping sauce. The chives are fragrant, the cabbage is crisp, and the shrimp in the pork filling has a nice bounce. Maybe the wrappers aren’t anything special, but so what? It tastes great.

Over the years of writing, I’ve deeply felt this: lately, more people have become narrow-minded, and food, which is meant to satisfy hunger, has somehow turned into a tool for exclusion or conflict. (Sigh)
