The Singaporean cuisine Xiao Sheng is introducing this time is the uniquely located Indian curry spot Lagnaa in Little India. While most Indian curries are known for their rich spices, "spiciness" is also one of the distinctive flavors of Indian cuisine. However, this Indian restaurant takes the "spicy" aspect to the extreme. Let’s take a look at what makes Lagnaa Indian cuisine so special.

Lagnaa Bare Foot Dining is located on Upper Dickson Road in the Little India district. The area is filled with historic buildings that blend Chinese influences, and Lagnaa is no exception. Strolling through Little India always gives off a particularly warm and familiar vibe, but that’s not the focus this time. This article is all about Indian cuisine—let’s dive into what makes it so special.

Lagnaa is probably a well-known eatery in Singapore. Not only that, even the Japanese version of GaijinPot has featured this place before. The cute chef statue outside the restaurant displays plenty of media coverage.

The first floor doesn’t have many seats, so we headed straight to the second floor. Compared to the first floor, the decor upstairs is much simpler. But the name “Bare Foot Dining” means the restaurant offers an urban escape from the hustle and bustle, allowing customers to relax, kick off their shoes, and enjoy delicious Indian food.

However, there’s a sign on the wall inside about the “next Full Moon Party.” What exactly does the Full Moon Party mean?

It wasn’t until we went back downstairs that we learned Lagnaa’s spiciness is divided into 10 levels, depending on how much heat you can handle. But on regular days, you can only try up to level 6. Levels 7–10 require a special preparation method, which is why the restaurant hosts the Full Moon Party—an event that happens only once a month, giving you just one chance a month to challenge levels 6–10. But there’s a catch: you must first conquer level 6 to earn the qualification to try the higher spice levels.

Next to the spice level signs are rows of clips. The idea is that if you can finish a curry of level 3 or above on your own, your name can be added to the spice leaderboard. The higher you go, the fewer names you’ll see. As for level 10, it seems no one has successfully taken on the challenge yet—level 9 has only one successful challenger, XD.

My friend and I ordered two curries—one lamb curry and one vegetable curry. But since neither of us are big spice fans, we opted for the mild level 3 just to test the waters. The accompanying liver cucumber and carrots were supposedly meant to cool the heat, but they didn’t really help.

Indian flatbread—the restaurant serves this complimentary. The bread is super thin and crispy, which I really liked. Paired with the green dipping sauce, it adds a whole different flavor. Loved it.

The lamb curry—by the time it arrived, the lamb was practically hidden under the layers of curry. The meat was incredibly tender, and the restaurant isn’t just famous for its spice levels; the Indian spices used are also top-notch, highlighting the wonderful flavor of the lamb. This lamb curry was truly excellent. But… even though we only went for level 3, I found myself constantly chugging water. Level 3 was almost too much for me—hard to imagine what level 6 would be like.

The vegetable curry—the flavor wasn’t as intense as the lamb curry, but it was still really good. However, it was also at level 3 in terms of spice, and it was still pretty overwhelming.

We also ordered a portion of plain rice, which helped neutralize the spiciness quite a bit. Without the rice, I think I would’ve struggled even more to finish the curries.

Lagnaa is truly a very unique Indian curry restaurant. From the interior decor and music to the menu, everything is supervised by the head chef, filled with thoughtful details. But the most special part is the Full Moon Party’s spice challenge—it’s a major highlight of this place. If I ever find myself in Singapore again during a full moon, I’d definitely love to come back and experience the Full Moon Party.
