Travel Desk / Comprehensive Report
From now until the end of May, China Airlines (Reair) will serve “Happy Spare Rib Rice” in the economy class during lunch and dinner on selected return flights to Taiwan. The meal includes spare ribs glazed with scallion sauce, braised egg, five-spice minced pork, and freshly stir-fried pickled cabbage—each dish a familiar favorite among locals.
The “Happy Spare Rib Rice” was developed by Reair’s in-flight catering team, with all ingredients sourced locally in Taiwan. The star ingredient, pork ribs, is specially selected from local Taiwanese pork tenderloin. To accommodate the heating process required on board, cooking methods have been adjusted to prevent the meat from becoming too soft, ensuring an authentic taste of traditional Taiwanese cuisine is delivered at 30,000 feet.

Reair stated that since 2012, it has been offering a Taiwanese-style beef noodle in-flight meal in business class, and now it is also introducing the Happy Spare Rib Rice in economy class. The airline hopes to soothe the homesickness of travelers with these classic dishes and to let visitors learn about Taiwan through its food. If there is positive feedback on the Happy Spare Rib Rice, the airline may consider continuing to offer it in the future.
