June 14th JianTan Mountain Hiking Activity – Take a Journey Through Time in the Green Tunnel

The Taipei City Government’s Department of Urban Development’s Geotechnical Engineering Office will host an ecological guided tour of the JianTan Mountain hiking trail on June 14th, allowing participants to step through a corridor of time and explore the forgotten historical and cultural charm of JianTan Mountain.

The Geotechnical Engineering Office stated that the JianTan Mountain hiking trail, located within the Yuanshan Scenic Area, was once a military restricted zone and forest conservation area. Its natural forest composition and ecological plant life have been well preserved. Entering from the trailhead near JianTan Park, the lush, continuous mountain ridges naturally form a vibrant green corridor. While walking along the JianTan Mountain hiking trail, visitors can often encounter squirrels, fairy pitta birds, and Japanese white-eyes. The native forest here consists of trees such as Machilus thunbergii, Cinnamomum camphora, Lindera umbellata, Trema orientalis, and Ficus microcarpa. The ever-changing environment has fostered a diverse ecosystem among the flora and fauna.

Xia Xiantong, head of the Roads and Trails Section at the Geotechnical Engineering Office, said that the hiking event will begin at 8:00 AM on June 14th at Exit 2 of JianTan Metro Station. Groups of up to 15 people will be formed and set off together, with the entire hike taking about three hours. The estimated total number of participants is around 300, and the public is welcome to join.

JianTan Metro Station Exit 2 → JianTan Park → Dazhong Temple → Wooden Boardwalk and Viewing Platform at the Radio Microwave Station → Printing Platform → Sentry Experience Area → Elaeocarpus Avenue → Acacia Forest on the Small Ridge → Qimei Guanyin Sunset Viewing Platform → Fork in the Road → Stone Stairway Trail → Bamboo Grove Path → Ming Chuan University → JianTan Metro Station Exit 1.
