Coming to Sichuan without seeing pandas is like going to Beijing without visiting the Forbidden City!These fluffy pandas are the top celebrity ambassadors of Sichuan—with their chubby bodies, adorable black eye patches, and all their clumsy yet lovable antics, they’re nothing but adorable!Panda fans from all over the world even compete to become panda caretaker volunteers just to get up close with these “national treasures.”
Inthe “hometown of pandas,”Sichuan, there are many places where you can see pandas in person. One well-known spot is the Panda Base in Dujiangyan City. The park features a national-level breeding facility, offering a comfortable living space specially designed for these “bear babies.” Stepping into the base feels like entering a natural forest filled with phytoncides. Visitors can stroll along the scenic pathways, enjoy the chirping birds and fragrant flowers, while freely admiring the adorable pandas.

Because pandas are naturally afraid of heat, visitors may see fewer of them in summer, as they tend to hide indoors to escape the heat or take long naps. But this visit happened in early winter, and luckily, shortly after entering the park, we were greeted by a big group of super cute pandas.

The super healing pandas occasionally show some funny behaviors. One keeper waved a bamboo stick in front of a panda,and the little panda, startled, immediately dashed up the tree with its stubby legs and round body, climbing vigorously—but almost fell down in the process.This kind of “bratty” behavior instantly made everyone laugh, and every move the panda made was incredibly cute, winning over everyone’s hearts!

According to the local guide, all the pandas here are bred artificially and only eat selected premium-quality bamboo. A single panda can consume about 60,000 to 70,000 RMB worth of bamboo in a year—an astonishing appetite. However, due to inbreeding, pandas generally have low intelligence and even lack the instinct to mate. To assist with natural breeding,staff have even tried showing adult pandas “panda erotica” in hopes of getting them “in the mood.”Truly a labor of love.

Additionally, you can also have a “close encounter” with the pandas here, butit costs 5,000 RMB (about 23,000 TWD) as a charitable donation, with an interaction period of up to four hours. You can hold the panda, take selfies with it, feed it, and more.Or you can sign up to be a panda caretaker volunteer to get even closer to the daily lives of these “bear babies.” Let’s just say, the charm of pandas is truly irresistible.
