Located in Chiayi, “There’s Dessert in the House”is housed in a Japanese-style old building, and its slightly faded blue-green door adds a strong nostalgic, retro vibe. But the meals served here aren’t Japanese wagashi—they’re Western-style desserts. Each dessert is as exquisite as a piece of art, not only beautiful but also delicious. And the desserts are all made in limited daily quantities and sold until they run out, so latecomers often “miss out on the sweet treats.” You can imagine just how delicious the desserts in this house are.

Since the desserts are all made in limited daily quantities by hand and there’s no fixed menu, you can have a different taste experience every time you visit. Moreover, seasonal limited-edition desserts are also introduced with the change of seasons—for example, the top recommendation for summer is the sweet-and-sour “Summer Mango Yogurt,” reminiscent of first love, while the winter limited-edition dessert is undoubtedly the “Strawberry Custard Cake,” adorned with several bright, juicy strawberries in an extravagant presentation that’s hard to resist trying.

Besides its especially delicious desserts, the Japanese-style wooden building itself at “There’s Dessert in the House” also has a special history. In the early 20th century during the Japanese colonial period, it was once the Japanese Imperial Army Club. After the retrocession, it was rented out to a printing factory, andthe owner has also preserved the old signboard of the former “Yung Cheng Printing Factory” and printing equipment, so dining here feels like stepping into a time machine back to the early 20th century.

Next time you visit Chiayi, be sure to stop by “There’s Dessert in the House.” Sit in this store full of rich nostalgic charm, enjoy artisanal limited-edition desserts like pieces of art, and indulge in a relaxing and sweet afternoon tea. But there aren’t many seats, so friends who want to taste these delicious cakes should remember to arrive early to “reserve your spot”!
