The Bayan Settlement in Jinshan, New Taipei City, retains the rare large-scale terraced fields and traditional stone water channels seen in northern Taiwan. The terraced fields and ecological features of the settlement have become a unique local asset. However, in recent years, due to a decline in rural labor, the water channels and terraced fields have lacked maintenance. Many of the old water channels became blocked, damaged, or collapsed. After renovation, traditional stone masonry techniques were used for restoration. Visitors can explore the Bayan Settlement and enjoy a recreational experience that preserves traditional landscapes.

The Bayan Settlement restoration project included repairing existing waterways and central water field ridges. Local residents used local stones to manually construct porous environments, providing habitats for wildlife. The construction materials blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, creating a natural and sustainable appearance. Upon completion, it is expected to restore approximately 20 hectares of farmland, promote the revitalization of natural landscapes through ecological engineering, and support the sustainable development of traditional settlements. This will also be integrated with national park recreation and the agricultural tourism development of the Jinshan area, allowing traditional rural settlements to rediscover their charm under a new tourism mindset.
