Taiwan's earliest "pipe house" was actually in Changhua, originally offered free of charge to couples seeking children

Recently, Taiwan has seen a trend of "pipe houses," with accommodations available in Tainan, Hualien, and other areas. In fact, Taiwan’s first pipe house appeared three years ago in Huatan Township, Changhua. Over ten large pipes stand on the grass — this is the "A Place of Hidden Wonder" homestay café, introduced to Taiwan by owner Mr. Su through intellectual property rights imported from Mexico. It was originally provided free of charge to infertile couples but has recently been transformed into a café open to the public.

After traveling to Mexico, a friend recommended the unique accommodation of pipe houses. Mr. Su found the experience interesting, so he applied for the intellectual property rights from the Mexican operator and brought the concept of pipe houses to Taiwan. Almost all pipe houses in Taiwan were designed and built by Mr. Su. The pipe houses in Tainan, Hualien, and other locations were all created by him. Beyond construction, Mr. Su also placed a pipe house on flat ground as a sample, offering different scenic views whether visited during the day or at night.

The pipe house, which was initially used as a sample, was originally only offered to friends who came to visit. Later, because there was a nearby highly efficacious Temple of the Matchmaker, many infertile couples came to pray for children. Mr. Su then made the pipe house available for guests to stay in, on the condition that child-seeking couples receive divine permission by divination. They could then stay in the pipe house for free. “Building connections doesn’t require payment; if they really have a child, just bringing some fried rice is enough.” Over the past three years, Mr. Su’s pipe house has indeed earned him plenty of fried rice.

Originally planned as a themed restaurant, it was later decided to transform into a homestay and café under the management of his son. Currently, "A Place of Hidden Wonder" is still in its trial operation phase and will officially open on September 20. It has five pipe house accommodation units with shared bathrooms. In accordance with the original regulations set by the Mexican operator, each unit is priced at 1,000 New Taiwan Dollars. Unlike other pipe houses, the ones here not only offer lodging but also provide dining and resting spaces for guests to enjoy.
