Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
An Italian four-star hotel“Hotel Terme Millepini”has now broken the record held by Belgium’s NEMO33 by creating the world’s deepest swimming pool. Beneath its seemingly ordinary and calm surface lies an astonishing depth of 40 meters—equivalent to a 12-story building submerged underwater—not only testing visitors’ swimming skills and lung capacity but also pushing the limits of the human body.
According to the BritishDaily Mail, this swimming pool, named Y-40 The Deep Joy and designed by renowned architect Emanuele Boaretto, was just opened this July. It measures 21 meters in length and 18 meters in width. True to its name, it offers swimmers the most “profound” experience in water as deep as 40 meters.

From the cross-sectional diagram provided by the hotel, Y-40 The Deep Joy looks like a laboratory graduated cylinder. Starting from 10 meters below the surface, every 5 meters is marked with a depth indicator. There are also several caves beneath the surface where swimmers can swim through like mermaids. Aside from regular swimming, guests can also enjoy free scuba diving (SCUBA) training here. The pool’s water temperature is maintained between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, so even when diving to the very bottom, you don’t have to worry about being chilled by the cold water.
Non-swimmers need not worry either—the hotel has specially built an “underwater tunnel” in the pool. Just walk inside the tunnel, and you can not only watch swimmers pass overhead but also look down to observe the depth of the pool.
