This time, DaKou is introducing a favorite after-work hangout spot loved by office workers and young women on a budget — the “7 Skewers House” located on Section 1, Chang’an East Road in Taipei. The “7 Skewers House,” which has been open for quite some time, is jointly operated by seven people born in the 1970s (a play on the Chinese word for “seven”), hence the name “7.” The business has always been doing very well, attracting crowds during dinner and late-night hours.

The “7 Skewers House” specializes in grilling skewers to order without any pre-frying, so you can savor the rich aroma of grilled food. The fats are rendered out, resulting in a crispier texture and full flavor. The shop offers three types of sauces: Japanese caramel, classic salt & pepper, and German style. The caramel sauce is sweet and flavorful, the salt & pepper is savory and bold, and the German style allows the ingredients’ natural taste to shine through with subtle seasoning — each has its own charm. Most importantly, the prices are very friendly, offering exceptional value for money, making it perfect for casual gatherings after work. Now, let’s take a look at just how delicious these skewers are.

The 7 Skewers House is located on the first floor of a building on Section 1 of Chang’an East Road. The sign features a red base and slightly Japanese-style fonts, giving off the vibe of a passionate skewer grill shop.

Business is bustling here, with several tables available, and the lively atmosphere makes diners feel right at home. There’s also a counter area inside where you can watch your food being prepared, which is super satisfying. This place has only been around for a year but has quickly become a local favorite.

The ingredients are neatly displayed on shelves by the entrance. They look super fresh and inviting.

The space is compact but not cramped, and the counter seating is perfect for solo diners or small groups. The separate sections for meat and seafood also help avoid cross-contamination, which is a nice touch.

The meat and seafood are stored separately, with some pre-marinated items kept apart to prevent flavor transfer. This thoughtful setup helps keep everything clean and hygienic.

The prices are super reasonable, ranging from NT$15 to NT$120 per skewer, which is incredibly affordable for Taipei (praise hands).

There are also combo deals featuring beer, soda, and skewers starting at just NT$100 — such a great deal.

They also offer skewer sets and side dishes, allowing you to mix and match your favorites.

They serve basic beers like Taiwan Beer and Heineken, as well as wheat beer. Non-drinkers can opt for cola too. (Friendly reminder: no drinking for those under 18.)

For those not drinking, there are also non-alcoholic options like plum juice, green tea, and fruit teas — all great pairings.

The first plate includes cauliflower (caramel), king oyster mushrooms (caramel), shiitake mushrooms (caramel), chicken skewers (Texas style), and beef skewers (Texas style). What a generous start.

The first few items are all caramel-flavored. The shop refers to them as “premium skewers,” and they’re served fresh off the grill. They have a nice charred exterior, and the contrast between the slightly sweet caramel and savory meat is amazing. The chicken skewers are Texas-style, juicy and full of flavor.

The next set includes lamb skewers (caramel), pork skewers (Texas style), mushrooms (salt & pepper), king oyster mushrooms (salt & pepper), and cauliflower (salt & pepper). The caramel flavor has a slight sweetness and is what DaKou calls the “Tainan style,” which is also their personal favorite. It helps balance the gaminess of the lamb while adding a touch of sweetness and tenderness. The pork skewers are Texas-style, delightfully chewy and tasty.

This set includes enoki mushrooms, pork liver, and chicken gizzards — all savory-style skewers. They’re hearty and satisfying, especially when paired with the rich sauces.

The third set includes green peppers, chicken tails, chicken hearts, and chicken skin — all caramel-flavored. Each piece is grilled to a shiny, juicy perfection that’s seriously mouthwatering.

The chicken skin is crispy without being overly greasy. The thinner parts are extra crunchy, while the thicker parts are still tender. Every bite is delightful.

The reason they’re so good is because they’re grilled directly over the flame. Though not overly oily, they have a nice smoky charred flavor.

The chicken skin is especially interesting — the part closer to the heat is crispier with rendered fat, while the back part retains some juiciness, giving it a soft and bouncy texture. Getting both textures in one bite is pretty awesome.

The Texas-style skewers are also grilled directly, and though they may not look as shiny, they have a nice smoky charred taste.

% The pork was incredibly flavorful, with the meat being salty yet slightly sweet—absolutely perfect for pairing with drinks!!!

% The (original flavor) beef was grilled until slightly charred on both sides. It may not look big, but it’s actually quite substantial in size!

% The (original flavor) scallops were just a bit bigger than a 10-yen coin, with sweet and savory juices subtly seeping through the surface. I really wanted to just gobble it all up in one bite!

% I had one scallop, and the texture was incredibly tender and fresh. It was juicy and flavorful—the scallop was absolutely delicious. Eating it gave me a happy, euphoric feeling!

% The (original flavor) pork belly was actually quite large, served with lemon and pepper on the side so you can season it to your taste!

% The sardines were lightly grilled, and we could still smell their natural aroma. But we still went ahead and ate them as is.

% The (grilled) fish was steamed and then grilled, and the highlight is that it has very few bones. The flavor is salty and savory with a hint of lemon, making it impossible to stop eating!

% The chicken thigh had its skin removed, which solved the issue of it being too greasy. It wasn’t dry either, and the portion size was just right. The remaining parts could be made into either chicken soup or seasoned chicken, which could also be quite tasty!

% We also had caramel-glazed skewers—bacon (caramel), green onion meat (caramel). By this point, we were starting to feel a little full, but seeing such delicious food in front of us, we just couldn’t help but dig in!

% They were all amazingly delicious. The bacon was rich and juicy, with a bit of fat melting in your mouth—very savory and appetizing. The green onion meat skewers were full of scallion fragrance, with the scallions wrapped in juicy, aromatic meat slices. It was quite delicious!

% The (caramel-glazed) chicken drumstick was split into two pieces, so you get the satisfying portion of a drumstick without it being too much. That’s really smart!

% The (caramel-glazed) squid had already been pre-cut into pieces. It was super convenient to eat. The squid was Q (chewy), sweet, and fresh. The slightly sweet flavor made it really addictive—you just can’t get tired of it!

% The chicken wings, pork skewers, quail eggs, and sausage skewers were all super savory. The chicken wings even had nice grill marks—skewers with those char lines always look super tempting!

% The quail eggs weren’t overcooked because they didn’t have any char marks. They were just perfectly cooked inside. I thought they were pretty good!

% The sausage skewers had some juicy bits inside the casing. When you bit into them, the juices burst out. They were really delicious!

% The grilled scallops were definitely a highlight. Their scallops are top-quality, carefully selected for both freshness and size. The value for money is amazing!

% And then there were the scallops—they were the size of an adult’s palm, so huge!! They were incredibly sweet and fresh, with tender, soft flesh. Drinking the essence of the scallop made me feel energized!

% The clams were also huge, each one a single piece. When the shells slightly opened, it meant they were ready to eat!

% Once cooked, the clams were placed on ice. They weren’t overcooked, so they were super plump, tender, and delicious. Eating them was extremely satisfying!

% The grilled squid was also huge. They’re really particular about their seafood quality, carefully selecting everything for freshness and size. The cost-performance ratio is super high!

% Finally, we also tried a bunch of their meat skewers. They even mark the bamboo skewers to avoid mix-ups. It was all very reassuring!

“Qi Chuan Shao Wu” (Seven Skewers) carefully selects fresh and hygienic ingredients. The atmosphere is comfortable. In addition to selling meats, they also offer vegetables, snacks, and seafood—lots of choices at reasonable prices. Whether you want a light meal or to eat your fill, you can satisfy all your cravings here in one go. They offer three types of barbecue sauces, and my personal favorite is their Japanese-style caramel sauce. Brushing it on anything makes it sweet and delicious—it’s incredibly tasty. Besides the various meat skewers, their popular dishes also include German sausages, chicken wings, boneless chicken leg cutlets, fish cakes, mackerel, scallops, and chicken cartilage—all of which I really enjoyed. “Qi Chuan Shao Wu” is perfect for gatherings with friends or colleagues. It’s great for eating lots of meat and drinking lots of booze in a super lively and fun atmosphere. Recommended for anyone interested—when you get the chance, come give it a try. You might just make some unforgettable, wonderful memories!
