Tim Ho Wan’s Xinyi branch officially opened on the 17th. To celebrate the opening of the Xinyi branch, Tim Ho Wan has specially introduced three new exclusive dishes available only at the Xinyi branch and in Taiwan—Soy Sauce King Fried Noodles,Radish Chu Hou Beef TripeandSalt & Pepper Squid Balls.

The Tim Ho Wan Xinyi branch is located on the B2 level of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A8, with 136 seats. In addition to offering the 28 signature Hong Kong-style dim sum from the Qianzhan branch, the Xinyi branch has also launched three Taiwan-exclusive dishes: Soy Sauce King Fried Noodles, Radish Chu Hou Beef Tripe, and Salt & Pepper Squid Balls. The Soy Sauce King Fried Noodles are stir-fried with ingredients such as squid, shredded char siu, shredded bean sprouts, shredded cabbage, leeks, egg strips, and cilantro, using a uniquely Hong Kong-style soy sauce. The taste and texture differ slightly from those of Taiwanese fried noodles.

Chu Hou sauce is a traditional sauce used in Cantonese cuisine, and every chef has their own secret recipe. Tim Ho Wan says that the Radish Chu Hou Beef Tripe is made by steaming the beef tripe until tender, blending it with spices like Sichuan peppercorn and star anise, then simmering it with Chu Hou sauce and radish. Another popular night market and old street snack—the “Squid Ball”—is also an Xinyi branch exclusive. Tim Ho Wan insists on not adding any filler powder, so you can clearly taste the squid bits.

However, the flavor of the squid balls seems a bit on the salty side. After trying one skewer (three pieces), the reporter felt the need to drink water to wash away the saltiness. In response, Tim Ho Wan explained that taste preferences vary, and these Salt & Pepper Squid Balls are mainly made from shrimp paste and squid paste. To balance out the floury taste, the seasoning is slightly stronger.

The prices for the three new dishes—Soy Sauce King Fried Noodles, Radish Chu Hou Beef Tripe, and Salt & Pepper Squid Balls—are NT$128, NT$118, and NT$118 respectively. One serving of Salt & Pepper Squid Balls comes with two skewers totaling six pieces.
