The brand-new “Keelung Lucky Horse” is 4.15 meters long, 1.5 meters wide, and 3 meters tall — only half the size of the one in Yilan. Creator Ho Wen-bin said that all the wooden horses he created in the past year were modeled after stallions, so this time he designed a little mare inspired by the orange-yellow earthy tones of the三星 cosmos flower fields. He even gave her lipstick and a bow for a lovely touch.

2. Taipei 101’s Taiwan Flying Sheep Welcoming the New Year
Taipei 101 invited emerging Taiwanese designers to create 101 sheep sculptures, placed around the Taipei 101 area. Paired with light displays, they illuminated the warm and festive atmosphere of Taipei’s New Year City in 2015. The Taiwan Flying Sheep New Year display will continue until March 8.

MUJI’s flagship store in Taiwan has officially opened at B2F of Taipei Uni-President Hankyu, introducing Taiwan’s first “MUJI Café & Meal” restaurant, bringing a fresh new image of the MUJI brand.

The cat village of Houtong has reopened after a four-month renovation. The old Taiwan Railways dormitory has been transformed into a cute cat information station, allowing visitors to learn proper animal conservation concepts during their future trips to Houtong.

Shihfen Waterfall, known as the "Niagara Falls of Taiwan," has recently reopened to the public. Visitors can not only admire the magnificent scenery but also enjoy the forest's fresh air and let their minds and bodies relax.

The Yilan Sanxing Flower Sea Hot Air Balloon Festival has made a dazzling debut. Spanning 150 hectares, the flower sea allows visitors to enjoy the idyllic pastoral scenery amid golden cosmos fields, along with colorful and adorable hot air balloons.
Location: Right side of Sanxing Bridge on Section 3, Sanxing Road, Sanxing Township; Gongzhao Village within the township; along Provincial Highway 7C and County Highway 196.
Timing: Flower season runs for about 2 to 3 weeks starting December 26; the second wave of flowers is expected to bloom around Lunar New Year 2015.

Continuing Fantasia’s four core themes: “Green Awakening,” “Memory Continuation,” “Creative Passion,” and “Dream Amplification,” 12 old dormitories of the Water Resources Bureau have been transformed into cultural and artistic exhibition spaces. Visitors can enjoy a warm and tranquil atmosphere here while experiencing urban memories within these historic buildings.

Located in Nantou, the 200-meter-long Sky Bridge spans between two mountains and is the longest sky ladder in Taiwan. It offers breathtaking views of the majestic valleys. At night, the bridge’s beautiful light art and illuminations add a lively ambiance.

After more than 30 years of preparation and collection, and with an investment of over 2 billion NTD, the Chi Mei Museum officially opened on January 1. The museum houses an extensive collection of fine arts, animals, weapons, and musical instruments. Admission is by reservation; visitors must book online and then present their reservation number at the museum lobby to purchase tickets. Although all online time slots for January are fully booked, admiring the museum’s palace-like architecture and the Apollo Fountain from outside is still a rewarding experience.

This year, the organizers have created five major flower seas across five regions — Fuli, Chishang, Guanshan, Chenggong, and Beinan — adorning them with vibrant blooms that resemble giant rainbows laid across the land. Along the 12 townships of the valley, there are also 345 hectares of rapeseed fields and 102 hectares of cosmos flower seas, allowing visitors to take in the stunning scenery.
