Free 4G WiFi on Kaohsiung buses now available; iPass free ride promotion extended again

The free bus ride promotion with the Kaohsiung iPass has been extended to February again. The Kaohsiung City Government’s Department of Transportation announced that in addition to extending the free ride offer, they have also partnered with telecom operators starting today to launch free 4G WiFi services on Bus No. 205, giving the public a chance to experience high-speed internet access.

There are currently 164 bus routes in Kaohsiung, with trunk bus lines increased to 15. According to statistics from the Department of Transportation, bus ridership in 2014 grew by 25% compared to 2013, prompting the department to decide to extend the iPass free bus ride promotion until the end of February.

On the China Trunk Line No. 205 bus, which runs between “Jiachang Station – Kaohsiung Dream Mall,” three buses have started offering free 4G WiFi services from today, allowing both domestic and international passengers to enjoy free high-speed internet. In addition, real-time onboard video footage will be transmitted instantly via the “4G real-time vehicle monitoring system,” enabling the Department of Transportation to monitor driver and vehicle conditions at all times.

Moreover, to ensure the safety and peace of mind of early commuters, students, and those who return home late at night, the Department of Transportation has launched trial “Good Morning Buses” and “Safe Buses” on the first buses of each route and the last buses passing through train stations. These initiatives include improved punctuality, well-lit interiors during nighttime travel, and LED signs on the bus fronts indicating “Safe Bus” and “Good Morning Bus” to enhance passenger safety during nighttime rides.
