The Yuan Yuan Restaurant at The Grand Hotel reopens; trial operation offers 20% off all Jiangsu-Zhejiang dim sum

Established in 1973 under the directive of Madame Chiang Kai-shek, Soong Mei-ling, The Grand Hotel’s “Yuan Yuan Restaurant” is getting a brand-new look starting March 1st. Not only has it moved from a mezzanine that could accommodate only 100 guests to the first floor, now able to host 140, but the menu has also transformed from dim sum and snacks to Jiangsu-Zhejiang cuisine, with the number of dishes increasing from over 50 to more than 150. To celebrate the reopening of the “new” Yuan Yuan Restaurant, all Jiangsu-Zhejiang dim sum will be available at a 20% discount during the trial operation period from March 1st to 10th.

With a history of 42 years, The Grand Hotel’s “Yuan Yuan Restaurant” has relocated once before and will move from the mezzanine to the right side of the first-floor lobby on March 1st for trial operation, with the official opening scheduled for March 11th. The reopened Yuan Yuan Restaurant will not only feature its former signature dishes—such as chicken and ham braised noodles, xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), crispy fried pan-fried dumplings with “ice flower” crust, and Empress Soong’s favorite red bean sponge cake—but will also introduce new Jiangsu and Huai’an dishes under the leadership of Chef Wang Quanyi, along with Taiwanese cuisine, making the selection even more diverse, totaling over 150 dishes.

In addition to the first-floor dining area, Yuan Yuan Restaurant has seven private rooms: Yipin Xuan, Shuangxi Xuan, Sanduo Xuan, Wufu Xuan, Huai’an Xuan, Tianfu Xuan, and Tianxiang Xuan. Sanduo Xuan can accommodate up to 26 guests at one table, and the rooms on the V floor offer views of iconic Taipei landmarks such as Dajia Riverside Park, Dazhi Bridge, Songshan Airport, Taipei 101, and the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Building at Taipei Railway Station.

Li Jianrong, chairman of The Grand Hotel, stated that after a long preparation period, Yuan Yuan Restaurant can finally greet everyone with its new look. After moving to the first floor, all dining areas feature high ceilings with floor-to-ceiling windows, making for a very comfortable dining experience.

To celebrate the reopening of the “new” Yuan Yuan Restaurant, a special 20% discount on all orders (Jiangsu-Zhejiang dim sum only) is offered during the trial operation period from March 1st to 10th. On the opening day, March 11th, diners enjoy a 10% discount and receive a scratch card per table—with every card a winner. From March 12th to 31st, the first 10 groups of VIPs for lunch and dinner each day receive an additional 15% discount, and tables spending NT$3,800 or more receive a NT$500 voucher. From April 1st to 30th, diners who check in at Yuan Yuan Restaurant and post on the official Facebook page of “The Grand Hotel 圆山大饭店” will receive a 10% discount.
