Dotted with glowing lights amidst the May snow—A romantic symphony at the Tung Tree Firefly Season in Baxianshan

In mid-spring, when flowers are in full bloom, it’s also the best time to admire fireflies. The Baxianshan Nature Education Center is hosting a special “Tung Tree Firefly Season” to let the public enjoy the romantic May snow during the day and watch the twinkling “firefly” lights at night.

As spring deepens, the tung tree forest trails in Baxianshan become increasingly lush, with branches adorned in white tung blossoms. When the breeze blows and petals fall, it’s like a gentle snowfall blanketing the earth. By nightfall, it’s the fireflies’ turn to take the stage, fluttering through the grass and illuminating the dark world with their flickering lights. The Baxianshan Forest Recreation Area boasts a rich variety of fireflies, including the common “black-winged firefly,” the dazzling “red-chested black-winged firefly” that glows like a neon red light, as well as the protected aquatic species “yellow-chested black-winged firefly”... and more.

To experience the starkly different romances of Baxianshan by day and night, don’t missthe “Tung Tree Firefly Season” event hosted by the Baxianshan Nature Education Center on 4/25, 4/26, 5/2, and 5/3. In addition to guided forest bathing trail tours and eco lectures, there are also beautifully designed postcards for visitors to take home. Each session is limited to 50 participants, with a fee of 300 NTD per person(including activity fees and entrance tickets).
